This course will view and examine the nature of childhood and its decline into almost extinction. Participants will discuss and study the epidemic of childhood mental illness as well as such topics as the evaporation of childhood play and independent exploration. We will also discuss the great rewiring of childhood and its interference in social/neurological development, sleep deprivation, limited attention spans, addiction, social comparisons and perfectionism. Participants will also delve into the growing damages caused by social media and virtual worlds. Course participants will focus on steps that parents, schools, and families can take to restore a more human childhood.
